Wursts, or sausages, originated in Italy when Roman armies needed preserved
provisions. Today there are 1500 kinds of wurst in Germany. Several kinds will
be available at our Oktoberfest...Munich's fest has 6.5 million visitors consuming
750,000 roasted chickens, 700,000 sausages, 60,000 ham hocks, 80 oxen and
1.4 million gallons of beer. Beer in Bavaria is regonized as a food product
providing 30% of the nutrition to the Bavarian People. No preservatives are
allowed in the beer following a 1516 law...
Knackwurst
A knackwurst is a german sausage made mostly from beef. It is equivalent of our hot dog, only much larger. Unlike in America, the Germans do not eat their sausages with Ketchup, but rather with a spicy mustard and on a hard roll, which is much firmer and smaller than the standard hot dog bun...

Chicken Dance
Widely known as the "Chicken Dance", this dance song was composed by Werner Thomas in the 1970s in Davos Schwitzerland and was originally entitled as the "Enten Tanz" (Duck Dance).
There were many versions in the world, but this song and dance has had greatest longevity in the U.S., where it has become a favorite on most Oktoberfests...
Lederhosen
Lederhosen are leather shorts traditionally worn in the mountainous regions of
Germany. Their origin dates back to the early Middle Ages. They became increasingly popular in the early 1900s with the boys of the "Wandervoegel" (Boy Scouts) who
wore them much like we wear jeans today. They are worn with a variety of socks including knee socks or the split socks-loferl. The socks were a means of keeping the legs warm. Dirndl
The dirndl is the traditional folk-style dress of the working class in South-Germany.
The Tracht is also a traditional dress but was usually only worn on Sundays or by
the upper classes. While the dirndl was made to accentuate the female body, the
Tracht plays it down.
The Tracht is designed per region or clanchip. The dirndl has no real design limits
and is generally decorated by the whimsy of the designer...
