History of
"Oktoberfest in the Park"
It all started on March 1, 1976 when the newly immigrated Turek Family opened the now famous "Old Germany Restaurant" which is located at 15920 SE 29th Street in Choctaw, Oklahoma. With little left to lose but $300 in their pocket it was the beginning to a successful adventure.
The limited menu included the usual fast foods and one German dish - Wiener Schnitzel. It took time to convience people that German food was more than just sausages and sauerkraut and over time the menu changed to all german cuisine...

In 1991 Old Germany held their 2nd annual Oktoberfest right out on their parking lot...It was a great success and soon became one of the biggest annual attractions for the City of Choctaw.
In 2005 the festival hit a record attendance number of more than 10,000 people over the three day event. Now Old Germany Oktoberfest had outgrown the parking lot.

"We pride ourselfs on being one of the most authentic Oktoberfests in the United States..."says Mike Turek, Owner of Old Germany Restaurant. "So bring your appetite and prepare to feast on German food and enjoy some of the same beer that folks at Munich's Octoberfest relish."

In 2006 the City of Choctaw and Old Germany Restaurant decided to join together to keep the festival growing. It was decided to move it to "Choctaw Creek Park" which is located right in the middle of town.  Attendance reached well over 35,000 people in 2008.

Old Germany Restaurant and the City of Choctaw hope that everyone will
grab their friends, neighbors and families and head out to Choctaw,
"Let's go to Oktoberfest!"

Oktoberfest History
The Oktoberfest goes back to1810 and the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig - who later became King Ludwig I of Bavaria - and Princess Theresa of Saxony- Hildburghausen. The Royal Couple invited the people of Munich to celebrate on the fields in front of the city gates: the fields were named "Theresenwiese" ("Theresa's fields") in honor of  the princess. The locals later appreviated the name to "Wiesn."
The royal party drew about 40,000 guests. The official festivities lasted five days and included parades of rifleman, music, eating and drinking. Horse races in the presence of the royal family marked the close of the event that was celebrated as a festival for the whole of Bavaria.
